Program Description

Event Details

Embrace lifelong learning with the GOOD to KNOW! program series featuring guest presentations and workshops.

Get ready to stitch, learn, and create! This sewing class is a weekly multi-class series designed for beginners who want to build skills while making fun, practical projects. Participants are expected to cover the cost of any materials they use, but costs will not exceed $20 per series.

In the first multi-class series, students will learn the basics of sewing—how to use a sewing machine, work with fabric, and follow simple patterns—while making a custom apron from start to finish.

After completing the first series, students can sign up for the second series, where they’ll level up their skills by sewing a bag. Complete that series and you’re ready for the third series, where students will create a handy project pouch to store their sewing tools or works-in-progress.

Each series builds on the last, helping students grow their confidence, skills, and creativity in a fun and supportive environment.

This is the second class in this series; to register for this class you must have completed the first class!

Class Syllabus:

Week 1: Feb 11th
We’ll explore different types of fabrics and interfacings, learning which options work best for various projects so you can choose materials with confidence.

Week 2: Feb 18th
Get organized and ready to sew! We’ll review all eleven pattern pieces, prepare them for use, and lay them out on fabric for pinning and cutting. If time allows, we’ll also discuss the interfacings and cut those pieces as well.

Week 3: Feb 25th
Time to start sewing! We’ll begin constructing the exterior of the tote, including the straps.

Week 4: March 4th
We’ll continue assembling the exterior of the tote. If time permits, we’ll start working on the lining.

Week 5: March 11th
Focus on completing the lining and, if possible, begin attaching it to the exterior to bring your tote together.

Week 6: March 18th

A relaxed wrap-up week to finish any remaining steps, add final touches, and make sure everyone leaves with a completed tote.
